DESCRIPTION:Alexander Gassel\nPersonal Exhibition\ndedicated to the 84th anniversary\nof the tragedy in \nBabyn Yar\nSeptember 28-October 24; 5-8 p.m. weekdays; 1-5 p.m. Fridays\, Sundays; closed on Shabbat/Saturdays.\nPlease register in advance. \nREGISTER \nCommunity Hub\n1320 Centre St.\, Newton Centre\nSuggested donation – $18 \nExperience the contemporary paintings of Russian-American artist and designer Alexander Gassel – blending the avant-garde with traditional Russian iconography and combining ancient symbols with contemporary subjects\, Gassel creates surrealist works that reflect his cultural heritage alongside his experience of life in America. \nAlexander Gassel uses ancient techniques employed in the creation of icon paintings. He paints with egg yolk tempera\, making his own color pigments by grinding natural stones and minerals\, such as malachite\, cinnabar\, or lapis into powder\, which he then mixes with egg yolk. The artist often applies gold or silver leaf on the paintings. Blending the avant-garde with traditional Russian iconography\, combining ancient symbols with contemporary subjects\, Gassel creates surrealist works that reflect his cultural heritage alongside his experience of life in America. \nLearn more about Alexander Gassel and his works at alexandergassel.com \n\nThis event takes place at our Community Hub located at 1320 Centre St.\, Newton\, 02459. \nParking is available between the buildings or on the ramp behind the open bar gate. This engaging program (audience participation welcomed when appropriate😊!) features humorous songs\, poignant ballads\, and everything in between\, woven together with stories. Production numbers alternate with songs written for and about the type of intimacy The Loft engenders. You will be blown away by this dynamic NYC-based musical team as they perform hummable melodies and toe-tapping rhythms guaranteed to move\, inspire\, and\, most importantly\, entertain. \nA Listening Room Experience \nHermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate\, up-close\, and personal experience with the performing artists. We ask our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience\, which is not otherwise possible in larger\, noisier environments. \nDoors open at 5:30 pm for a complimentary wine tasting.
