\nЭто не единственная наша совместная работа \nпотому что как говорят на английском : \nTeam work makes a dream work \nчто обозначает \nВместе мы сила!

SUMMARY:A Russian Immigrant: Translingual Pleasures and Literary Responses to COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Maxim D. Shrayer—author\, scholar\, and translator—will discuss the lives and careers of translingual authors from the former USSR. He will read from his new book\, A Russian Immigrant: Three Novellas (Cherry Orchard Books)\, a literary manifesto of Russian Jews in America. The novellas feature Simon Reznikov\, a restless Boston-based immigrant who experiences Providence\, New Haven\, and Boston\, and embarks on pilgrimages to Estonia and Bohemia. Shayer will also comment on writing during the COVID-19 pandemic. \n“Forget all the slapstick\, Moscow-on-the-Hudson\, burlesque treatments of Jewish Russian émigré life you’ve ever read. If you want the honest\, beautifully rendered\, and deeply compelling truth about what it’s like to be a Russian immigrant in America\, these three braided novellas by the very talented Maxim D. Shrayer are all you need.”\n―Eileen Pollack\, author of The Bible of Dirty Jokes \nMaxim D. Shrayer is Professor of Russian\, English\, and Jewish Studies at Boston College and Director of the Project on Russian and Eurasian Jewry at the Davis Center.

We will look at a handful of mishnayot (in English) through the lens of personal and communal hardship and discuss how the wisdom they contain might also apply to our present situation — both personal and communal. \nNaomi Gurt Lind has been an opera singer\, a synagogue executive\, and a stay-at-home mother. In September she started school at Hebrew College in pursuit of her long-held dream of becoming a rabbi. In her free time\, she hangs out with her husband and their two genius boys\, solves crossword puzzles (in pencil)\, and bakes a legendary challah. \n11:10 am – Finding Order in a Pick-Up-Sticks World with Mussar \nThe virus has played the old children’s game of Pick Up Sticks with our daily routines. All our schedules have been suddenly turned upside down. In this session\, we will explore how the Mussar middah (trait) of seder/order can help us manage our time\, spaces\, and mental health during this time. We will study texts and spiritual practices. No prior knowledge is needed. Open to beginners and advanced Mussarniks. \nMarcia Plumb is the Senior Rabbi of Congregation Mishkan Tefila\, Brookline. She has studied and taught Mussar for over 25 years\, and is working to embed Mussar into all aspects of her synagogue. She teaches several classes at Mishkan Tefila and throughout Boston\, as well as online internationally. Marcia lives in Needham with her husband and two children. \n12:20 pm – Jewish End-of-Life Decision Making \nHow can Jewish texts and traditions guide us as we face dilemmas of end-of-life decision making in our modern world? In addition to exploring this question\, we’ll talk about documents everyone should have\, along with ways to have conversations about our wishes for medical treatment at the end of life or in the face of a terminal condition. \nJulie Wolkoff is a hospice chaplain with BI Lahey Health @ Home – Watertown and has been a hospice chaplain for over 12 years. She received her rabbinic ordination from HUC-JIR in 1982 and her Doctor of Ministry degree in 1996 and Certification in Thanatology (the study of death\, dying\, and Bereavement) from the Association for Death Education and Counseling in 2010. She previously served as the Director of Chaplaincy Services for the United Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York. \nThere is no cost for registering but everyone needs to sign up\, whether you’re interested in one\, two\, or all three sessions. Those who register will receive a Zoom link for the entire eFestival. For security reasons\, no one will be able to receive a link without pre-registering. \nWherever you find yourself\, Limmud will take you one step further on your Jewish journey\nSign Up \n\nLimmudBoston gratefully acknowledges the resources and funding of: \n \nCorporate Sponsor:
