Join us at the Boston City Hall Plaza in front of the Boston City Hall for a solemn gathering, as we come together to remember the millions of souls lost to the devastating man-made famines that plagued Ukraine. We will honor the memory of those affected during the mass artificial famine of 1921–1923, the Holodomor of 1932–1933, and the mass artificial famine of 1946–1947.
🕯️ Candles of Remembrance and Symbols of Hope
To illuminate the darkness of history, we kindly request that you bring LED candles to light in memory of the victims. In addition, please consider bringing wheat stalks, a symbol of growth and resilience, as a mark of remembrance and hope for the future.

Event Overview:
The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Boston Chapter, is sponsoring in conjunction with other local organizations, a commemoration of the 91st anniversary of Holodomor, the Ukrainian Famine Genocide of 1932-1933. The commemoration will start at 3PM, November 15, 2024, at Boston City Hall Plaza.
The event is dedicated to remembering the victims of the man-made famine, conducted by the Soviet regime of Joseph Stalin, which caused the death, by starvation, of millions of Ukrainians in 1932 and 1933.
The event will feature a brief introduction, comments by honored guests, an opportunity to view an exhibit by the Holodomor Remembrance Committee and will conclude with a brief candle lit ceremony for the victims including an appeal for the end of Genocide on our planet.

Exhibit description: The exhibit has four components:
- A basic overview of the Holodomor presented on 9 banners that employing a striking combination of graphics, text and survivor statements.
- A demonstration table and related materials that bring to life the reality of how human beings attempted to sustain life without access to traditional food supplies.
- Graphic visual language posters that reclaims the style of constructivist posters of the period and reinterprets traditional Ukrainian embroidery. These posters depict events of the Holodomor and explain its consequences. Each of the posters is interactive and accompanied by augmented reality animation viewable on the viewers phone.
- A resource table staffed by volunteers that can help answer questions.
