“Who Holds Up the Sky?” features work by Ukrainian artists who have been documenting the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine—providing testimony of Russia’s crimes and a glimpse into many citizens’ lives.

Inspired by the exhibition, this City Talk explores the importance of art as a record of the war and the ongoing efforts to protect Ukrainian art caught in the crossfire. Hear from those working on the ground in Ukraine and Boston as they share their experiences advocating for the safeguarding and preservation of Ukraine’s people, cultural heritage, and historical context.

Participants
Dr. Oleh Kotsyuba, scholar of literature and culture; manager of publications, Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute; and director, Ukraïnica: The Primary Database of Ukrainian Studies
Oleksandra Kovalchuk, acting director, Odesa Fine Arts Museum, Ukraine
Katya Malakhova, Ukrainian native; founder, Sunflower Peace Foundation; professional tennis player; and award-winning real estate agent
Moderated by Monica Irina Garcia, senior manager of Equity Programs and Audience Development, MFA Boston
